Anambra police arrest suspect in child trafficking ring, rescue victim from Ghana

The Anambra Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in the fight against child trafficking with the arrest of a suspect linked to a gang involved in trafficking children aged 13-16 years to neighboring countries, including Ghana and Benin Republic.

The arrest comes amid heightened concerns from the Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, following a surge in reports of missing persons, particularly in the areas of Okpoko and Onitsha.

These concerns prompted the police to launch a targeted operation aimed at dismantling the trafficking network.

According to a statement from the command’s spokesperson, Ikenga Tochukwu, the operation has already yielded positive results.

One victim has been safely rescued from Accra, Ghana, and has since been debriefed by the authorities. The arrested suspect is currently being held and interrogated at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka.

The investigation is ongoing, with efforts focused on rescuing more victims and apprehending additional members of the trafficking ring.

The Anambra Police Command remains committed to tackling child trafficking and is working diligently to prevent further incidents, ensuring the safety and protection of vulnerable children in the region.
