World Climate Industry Expo 2024 kicks off in Busan, South Korea

The World Climate Industry Expo commenced on September 4, 2024, in Busan, South Korea, bringing together over 500 global companies and experts from 20 participating countries to discuss sustainable development through carbon-free energy sources.

The expo features 11 conferences and exhibitions, with a focus on carbon-free energy, industry technology, and climate summits.

During the opening ceremony, participants emphasized the urgent need to tackle climate change by reducing emissions and enhancing energy security simultaneously.

It was noted that global energy investments are projected to exceed $3 trillion in 2024, with $2 trillion allocated for clean energy technologies, including renewables, electric vehicles, and nuclear power. This investment is expected to double over the next decade.

Hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy in collaboration with the International Energy Agency (IEA), the expo aims to advance South Korea’s Carbon-Free Energy (CFE) initiative, which was announced by President Yoon Suk Yeol last year.

The CFE initiative focuses on achieving carbon neutrality by utilizing carbon-free sources, such as nuclear energy and hydrogen.

Under the theme “Ushering in a Carbon-Free Energy Era with Climate Technologies,” the event will host various forums and sessions that cover key topics like green growth, climate change response, and the role of artificial intelligence in energy transition.

A workshop session will also introduce the CFE initiative to member countries of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, with Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power leading discussions on clean hydrogen usage.

Additionally, the Ministry of Industry and the IEA released a joint statement endorsing the CFE initiative as a vital strategy for accelerating progress toward net zero emissions by 2050.

Notably, the Niger State Government delegation joined other CFE leaders and experts in a roundtable discussion titled “Creating a Sustainable Future through Net Zero,” focusing on the opportunities and challenges associated with the global energy transition.

The expo serves as a significant platform for collaboration and innovation in addressing the pressing issue of climate change.
