Zuma’s attempt to prosecute Ramaphosa in private postponed by Johannesburg High Court

The hearing of former South African President Jacob Zuma’s request to bring a private prosecution against current leader Cyril Ramaphosa has been postponed by the Johannesburg High Court.

The case was postponed by the court until August 6 on Thursday.

Mr. Zuma is attempting to bring legal action against President Ramaphosa for allegedly not taking action against journalist Karen Maughan and prosecutor Billy Downer for allegedly revealing his medical information, which was found in court records during his corruption trial.

The former president claims that there was a legal breach with the alleged leak.

President Ramaphosa successfully petitioned the court to stop the prosecution last year.

After that, Mr. Zuma appealed the ruling to the Supreme Court of Appeal, whereupon the court rejected his case, citing illegal and unconstitutional grounds for the president’s prosecution.

In order to take legal action against his successor, Mr. Zuma is attempting to have that court ruling overturned.
