Wale Ojo is an award-winning British Nigerian actor who is known for his captivating on-screen performances.

He came into prominence in 1995 for his role in “The Hard Case” and has since featured in several Nollywood movies.

At the 10th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) in May, 2024, he was awarded the Best Lead Actor for the 2023 film, Breath of Life.

Background

Wale Ojo was born in London, England on the 9th September, 1968.

He became a child star working mainly on drama series and television soaps with Africa’s first television station, WNTV IBADAN.

He worked with Akin Lewis, who played a barber on the NTA Ibadan 1980s television series “Why Worry”.

At age 12, he moved with his family to England, where he furthered his academic pursuit and subsequently bagged a bachelor’s degree from the University of Hull.

Career

His acting career in the United Kingdom began in 1986 where he played a very young OTHELLO in the east end of London.

He is well-known for his comedic series MEET THE ADEBANJOS (2012–2014), for which he received a nomination for BEST COMEDY ACTOR at the 2018 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards.

 

Additionally, his breakthrough feature film, PHONE SWAP, made him incredibly popular in Nigeria and earned him the BEST ACTOR award at the Nigeria Lite Entertainment Awards.

In an effort to improve the standard of Nigerian films, Ojo founded New Nigeria Cinema, which in 2010 held lectures and a film screening at the British Film Institute in London.

The award-winning actor is still single and yet to be married, he prefers to keep his private relationships away from the media.
