During the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), the Governor of Niger State actively participated in high-level discussions with officials from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Sustainable Development Group.
This collaboration, supported by the Nigeria Governor’s Forum, focused on critical issues such as health and well-being, education, gender inequality, climate action, and urban resilience projects.
A significant emphasis was placed on leveraging digital technology to optimize scarce resources and enhance productivity.
The Governor engaged with Dr. Ahunna Eziakonwa, the UNDP’s Assistant Administrator and Regional Director for Africa. Under her leadership, the UNDP aims to combat poverty, inequality, and climate change across 170 countries, making it a pivotal force in sustainable development efforts.
In his discussions, Governor Bago highlighted potential avenues for business growth, the establishment of technology innovation hubs, and the importance of technical assistance programs.
He underscored the role of public-private partnerships in driving economic development across various sectors.
Furthermore, during the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) dialogue with the Nigeria Governors Forum, the conversation shifted towards human capital development.
Key topics included the integration of SDGs into sub-national medium- to long-term planning and budgeting processes, utilizing technology and data to enhance resource availability and prioritization for sustainable development initiatives.
This engagement marks a significant step towards addressing pressing challenges and fostering collaboration for a more sustainable future in Nigeria.
