UAW charges Trump, Musk with labor violations

The United Auto Workers Union on Tuesday said that it has filed federal labor charges against Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla (TSLA.O), and Donald Trump for their attempts to intimidate and threaten employees.

Following a two-hour discussion on the social networking platform X on Monday night, wherein the two discussed employees going on strike, Musk and Trump took action.

“You’re the greatest cutter,” Trump said during the conversation. “I mean, I look at what you do. You walk in, you just say: ‘You want to quit?’

They go on strike – I won’t mention the name of the company – but they go on strike. And you say: ‘That’s okay, you’re all gone.'”

The National Labor Relations Act forbids employers from threatening to dismiss employees for going on strike, and federal law prohibits firing employees for doing so, according to the UAW’s statement.

Vice President Kamala Harris has received support from the UAW in her presidential campaign. She spoke with workers and union representatives last week in the Detroit area. (Reuters)
