Troops burst several illegal oil bunkering sites in Rivers, Bayelsa

In a renewed effort to curb the activities of illegal oil bunkering in the Niger Delta Region (NDR), troops of the Land Component (LC), Joint Task Force (JTF) South South (SS), Operation DELTA SAFE (OPDS), have significantly ramped up their operations against these criminal networks.

Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, Acting Deputy Director of 6 Division Army Public Relations, revealed this in a statement on Thursday, August 8, 2024. He emphasized the troops’ increased vigilance and success in identifying and neutralizing illegal refining sites (IRS) in Rivers and Bayelsa States.

In Rivers State, troops of Sector 3, LC JTF SS OPDS, acting on credible intelligence, located and destroyed three illegal refining sites in Odagwa, Etche Local Government Area (LGA). The operation resulted in the confiscation and destruction of over 30,000 liters of stolen and illegally refined oil products.

CP Danmamman assured the public that the police are making concerted efforts to track down the owner of the vehicle and apprehend the fleeing suspects. “However, concerted effort is ongoing through investigative process to track the owner of the said vehicle and arrest the fleeing culprits towards unraveling the source and purpose of the pump action rifles, and prosecution. The case is under investigation in SCID Minna,” he stated.

This successful recovery underscores the ongoing efforts of the Niger State Police Command to combat illegal arms trafficking and enhance security in the region. The investigation is ongoing, and the police remain committed to bringing the culprits to justice.
