Port Harcourt witnessed chaos on Friday as rival factions within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), aligned with Rivers State Governor Sir Siminialayi Fubara and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Chief Nyesom Wike, clashed near the party’s state secretariat along the Port Harcourt-Aba Expressway.
The confrontation escalated into violence, with gunfire reportedly heard around the PDP office.
Witnesses offered conflicting accounts, with some attributing the shots to security operatives stationed at the site following a court-ordered removal of Aaron Chukwuemeka’s executive leadership. Others claimed political thugs were responsible for the gunfire.
Sources revealed that tensions flared when supporters of Governor Fubara, who had previously been ejected from the secretariat by security personnel, attempted to retake the office on Friday morning.
They were met with stiff resistance from a faction allegedly loyal to former governor Nyesom Wike, leading to a violent showdown.
