
The African National Congress (ANC), the country’s ruling party, has been unsuccessful in its legal attempt to prevent a recently established party, supported by former President Jacob Zuma, from contesting in the general election scheduled for May.
uMKhonto weSizwe, or MK, had been accused by the ANC of not meeting the requirements for formal registration.
On Tuesday morning, the nation’s electoral court dismissed that challenge.
The African National Congress (ANC), which pollsters indicate may lose its majority when South Africans cast ballots on May 29, has also filed separate lawsuits against MK.
The ANC’s now-dissolved armed wing, which has accused the party of violating copyright, is the source of the party’s moniker. (BBC)
