Secondary school students allegedly attack teacher, beat him to coma in Kogi

A disturbing incident has unfolded at Ebira Muslim Community College Okengwe (EMCCO) in Okene Local Government Area of Kogi State, where a group of senior secondary school (SS2) students reportedly attacked their Physics teacher, Mr. Muktar Salihu, leaving him in a critical condition.

The students, alleged to be members of a cult group, reportedly carried out the assault to intimidate the school staff and assert dominance over the institution. The attack, which has left Mr. Salihu in a coma, is believed to have been premeditated.

Reports suggest that the group’s leader, identified as Abdulbatin, is the son of the Opokitipo of Esusu clan, a traditional ruler in the Okengwe district. The assault took place within the school premises, and sources say the students had plans to extend their influence over the college’s administrative structure.

Mr. Salihu is currently receiving medical attention at an undisclosed hospital, where his condition remains critical.

One of the school teachers has however called on relevant agencies to assist the school in curbing the activities of the ‘boys’

“We urge the State Ministry of Education, State Education Board, the security agencies and other relevant authorities to urgently swing into action with a view to bring the perpetuators to book, forestall future occurences and instill discipline in our schools and colleges” the teachers stated.

It was gathered that the District Police Officer in the area has waded into the matter and has ordered the traditional ruler to produce his son tomorrow unfailingly.
