Rivers crisis: Another commissioner resigns from Fubara’s cabinet

Rivers State Commissioner for Environment, Austen Ben-Chioma has tendered his resignation from the of Governor Sim Fubara’s administration.

This move marks the third resignation of a commissioner today, following the collapse of the peace agreement between Governor Fubara and FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.

Ben-Chioma’s decision to step down comes amidst escalating verbal exchanges between the Fubara and Wike factions. Notably, Ben-Chioma had previously resigned in December 2023 when tensions between Wike and Fubara became public knowledge.

After an intervention led by President Bola Tinubu, both camps had reconciled and signed a peace agreement.

However, recent weeks have seen a resurgence of hostilities between the two factions, exacerbated by Governor Fubara’s redeployment of two commissioners who subsequently tendered their resignations prior to Ben-Chioma’s departure.
