The House of Representatives has summoned the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyode, to testify in an investigation concerning a N15 billion bribery scandal.
The scandal emerged after a viral voice recording circulated on social media, where popular crossdresser Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, allegedly claimed to have paid N15 million to the EFCC to drop money laundering charges against him.
In a letter dated September 27, 2024, the House Committee requested the presence of the EFCC Chairman, along with the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Correctional Service and officers linked to the allegations.
The officials are expected to appear before the committee on September 30.
The viral recording, shared by social media influencer Martins Otse, also known as Very Dark Man, alleged that Bobrisky was housed in a VIP facility instead of a standard prison, raising further questions about possible misconduct and preferential treatment within the Nigerian justice system.
In addition to EFCC officials, the committee has invited both Bobrisky and Martins Otse to testify as part of the ongoing investigation.
The inquiry is likely to draw significant public attention, given the high-profile individuals involved and the gravity of the accusations.
As the investigation unfolds, it could have far-reaching implications for the transparency and integrity of Nigeria’s law enforcement and correctional services.
