The House of Representatives has resolved to set up a special ad-hoc committee to investigate the factors responsible for the skyrocketing prices of goods and services in the country.
The resolution emanated from a motion of urgent public importance sponsored by Rep. Ibrahim Isiaka(APC, Ogun) during plenary on Wednesday.
Leading the debate on the floor, Rep. Isiaka noted that the common masses finds it difficult to afford food items, baby food and even the purchase of cooking gas among other basic needs to carter for themselves.
Contributing to the debate, lawmakers like Ben Igbakpa and Abejide Leke explained that the reason for the skyrocketing prices of goods and services are not far fetched considering the fact that the country rely on goods importation from foreign countries and the continuous borrowing of fund by the federal government.
The motion however scaled through when put to voice vote by the presiding officer, Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila.
Expected to lead the Special ad-hoc committee is the deputy leader of the House, Rep. Peter Akpatason.
