Real reasons why NYSC should be scrapped…Henshaw

Veteran actress, Kate Henshaw has given her opinion about the existence of the National Youth Service Corps, arguing that it has outlived its purpose.

Kate Henshaw believes that it should be a rapped as it no longer guarantees the safety of the corp members traveling from one part of the country to another.

Posting on her social media, she also recollects back in the days when she went on the one-year mandatory service, how things were peaceful loving, and quite a memory, She said;

“When I served in the North,it was a very memorable experience. Travelling from Bauchi by road to the airport was safe & then flying to Lagos just with my NYSC ID card, which also got me rebate on my ticket.

It’s time to SCRAP this idea since corpers can’t travel within this country without LET OR HINDRANCE!

Stop putting the lives of young people at risk with moribund ideas.

Security is a priority  & needs to be sorted totally,  not technically”

Kate Henshaw isn’t the only one who seems to have complained about this, as many Nigerians also feel it’s time to let it go. This isn’t surprising as various news outlets continue to report one incident or the other as it concerns corp members either losing their lives or being in an endangered situation.

The NYSC was established in 1973 as a response to the need for young Nigerians to interact with people from different backgrounds and regions, thereby promoting understanding, tolerance, and unity among the country’s various groups.

The program involves deploying graduates to states other than their home states, where they engage in various community development projects, including education, healthcare, rural infrastructure, and more.

Through the NYSC, graduates are exposed to different cultures, languages, and traditions, allowing them to gain a deeper appreciation of Nigeria’s diversity and shared identity. It also serves to promote a sense of national pride and belonging among the youth, contributing to the nation’s social and economic development.
