The Police Service Commission (PSC) has named Mr. Banji Lawal as the new Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG), representing the South-West geopolitical zone in the Force Management Team.
In a statement issued on Friday in Abuja, Ikechukwu Ani, Head of Press and Public Relations at the PSC, announced Lawal’s appointment.
He succeeds Mr. Sylvester Alabi, who retired on December 31 after serving as DIG in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department.
Before this promotion, Lawal held the position of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Border Patrol at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
His extensive career includes serving as the Commandant of the Police Training College in Ikeja and Assistant Commissioner of Police for Operations in Ekiti, Abia, and Edo states.
Lawal’s selection followed a rigorous evaluation process, including written and oral examinations conducted during the Commission’s plenary session. He received commendation for his dedication to the Nigeria Police Force’s Community Policing initiative, which aims to strengthen trust and cooperation between law enforcement and the public.
The PSC Chairman, Mr. Hashimu Argungu, congratulated Lawal on his well-deserved promotion and urged him to bring his wealth of experience to the Police Management Team. Lawal’s appointment is expected to further enhance the Force’s efforts to ensure safety and security across the nation.
