The Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Uzor Orji Kalu has said the six months he spent in prison have reaffirmed his faith in the unity of the country.
Kalu, made this known on Monday, when the leadership of the House of Representatives led by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase paid him a courtesy call at his residence in Abuja.
According to him, there is a close unity among Nigerians in prison as the inmate consider themselves, saying that has given him a lot of encouragement about the future of the nation.
“I want to assure you that this six months there have given me a lot of encouragement about the unity of Nigeria. I believe when you go in there you do not know who is Hausa, you dont know who is Igbo and who is Yoruba.
“To me, this is a time for prayer; it’s a time for forgiveness. Politicians should find time to forgive so that our nation could move forward”
Speaking further, the former Abia Governor said he has forgiven all those who offended him and also begged for forgiveness from those he has hurt.
“I appreciate this visit and for people who have done me wrong, I have forgiven them and for those I’ve offended, they should forgive me too.
He said his prison experience has taught him a lot of lessons because “what I’ve known today, I never knew a day before yesterday.
I will look unappreciative if I do not use this opportunity to thank my brothers and sisters who came to visit me in prison. My family and I sincerely appreciate your love”, he stated.
Earlier, the deputy speaker, Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase told Kalu to consider what has happened to him “as part of destiny”.
He said the visit was identify with Kalu and encourage him not to give up but to continue to serve his people and work for the development of the nation.
“Our leader, sometime ago we were in your house, here again, we are in your house when we set the ball rolling in your campaign and by the grace of God we emerge.
We are here to commiserate with you over what happened and as a politician, I want you to take it as one of those things.
Wase said” my leader late Solomon Lar told me not to fear as a politician to go to prison as going to prison is a virtue of honour. If you are a good politician you should be willing to taste because it will come to you in different dimension, that happened to us sometime ago.
We want you to appreciate what God has done for you.. I saw your comment they are very encouraging We are here to encourage you never to be weaken by what has happened,” Wase said.
