President Bola Tinubu is set to depart Abuja on Saturday, January 11, for a five-day visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to participate in the 2025 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW).
The summit, scheduled to take place from January 12 to 18, is a major global platform focusing on sustainability and environmental innovation.
Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga confirmed the trip in a statement on Friday, emphasizing that the event is at the invitation of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the UAE.
President Tinubu’s participation underscores Nigeria’s commitment to sustainable development and its engagement with international efforts to address climate change and promote green energy initiatives.
“The Summit will bring together global leaders to accelerate sustainable development and advance socioeconomic progress,” the statement read.
Themed “The Nexus of Next: Supercharging Sustainable Progress,” the event aims to unite policymakers, business leaders, and civil society to explore strategies for transitioning to a sustainable economy and fostering global prosperity.
“ADSW, a testament to the power of collaboration, has been held annually for over 15 years. It provides a global platform to foster multi-stakeholder cooperation in addressing global challenges and accelerating growth,” the statement continued.
“It has birthed high-value agreements and strategic partnerships between governments, industry leaders, and clean energy pioneers worldwide, driving impactful alliances and advancing the sustainability agenda worldwide.”
The summit will also serve as an opportunity for President Tinubu to emphasize his administration’s focus on reforms in energy sufficiency, transportation, public health, and economic development.
During the visit, the President and his delegation will engage with UAE leaders to discuss mutual interests affecting both nations.
Accompanying the President on this trip are the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, and other senior government officials. President Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria on Thursday, January 16, according to Onanuga.
