President Bola Tinubu has initiated significant changes in the leadership of the South East Development Commission (SEDC), appointing Emeka Nworgu as the new chairman, replacing Emeka Atuma.
This development is part of a broader effort to restructure the commission’s board to enhance its efficiency and effectiveness.
According to a statement by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, the board has been reconstituted with notable changes, including the replacement of all three executive directors and the addition of two new members.
The restructured board now comprises 16 members, one more than its previous configuration.
Among the new appointees, Stanley Ohajuruka has been named Executive Director of Finance, succeeding Anthony Ugbo. Toby Okechukwu has taken over from Obinna Obiekweihe as Executive Director of Projects, while Chief Sylvester Okonkwo has replaced Dr. Daniel Ikechukwu Ugwuja as Executive Director of Corporate Services.
Additionally, Chidi Echeazu and Clifford Ogbede have been appointed as executive directors without specific portfolios.
Notably, Mark C. Okoye retains his position as the Commission’s Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, ensuring continuity in the agency’s leadership.
Several board members have also been retained, including Barr. Ugochukwu H. Agballah, Hon. Okey Ezenwa, Chief Hyacinth Ikpor, Barr. Ifeanyi Agwu, Nasiru Usman, Hamma Adama Ali Kumo, Edward David Onoja, Orure Kufre Inima, and Joke Adebayo-Chukwuma. However, Donatus Eyinnah Nwankpa has been removed from the board.
Onanuga emphasized that these appointments are subject to Senate confirmation. He added that President Tinubu expects the newly reconstituted board to bring their expertise and dedication to driving meaningful development in the Southeast region.
