President Tinubu approves establishment of Federal Polytechnic in Abuja

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the creation of a Federal Polytechnic in Gwarinpa, one of the largest residential estates in Abuja.

The institution will be named Bola Ahmed Tinubu Polytechnic in honor of the President’s contributions to education and national development.

In a letter dated January 16, 2025, directed to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, confirmed the federal government’s decision to establish the polytechnic.

The aim of the institution is to promote technological, vocational, and entrepreneurial education, aligning with Nigeria’s national education policy.

Dr. Alausa also requested the FCT Minister to identify suitable locations within Gwarinpa for both the temporary and permanent campuses of the institution.

A technical team from the Federal Ministry of Education and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) will inspect the proposed sites. Once their report is submitted, final approval for the campus sites will be granted.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, has expressed his gratitude to President Tinubu for the approval.

In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs, Kingsley Madaki, Maikalangu also commended the FCT Minister for his role in making this educational milestone possible for the people of the FCT.

Maikalangu described the establishment of the Federal Polytechnic in Gwarinpa as a dream realized, adding that the institution would contribute significantly to the progress of the FCT and its residents.

He also highlighted the historic appointment of an FCT native, Zaphaniah Bitrus Jisalo, as a two-term member of the House of Representatives and now the FCT Minister, noting the positive impact on the region.
