In a decisive operation, operatives of the Nigerian police in Kebbi State have eliminated four suspected kidnappers, successfully rescued a victim, and recovered N3 million in Suru Local Government Area.
The Kebbi Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafi’u Abubakar, disclosed the details of the operation in a statement issued on Saturday in Birnin Kebbi.
According to Abubakar, the operation was carried out following credible intelligence, leading to a confrontation in which the suspects were neutralized.
The rescued victim has since been reunited with their family, while the recovered funds are believed to be ransom money collected by the kidnappers.
“On Feb. 14, at about 1:45 p.m., armed men suspected to be kidnappers stormed Gobiraje Village in Suru Local Government Area and abducted one Umaru Bawa, 60.
“Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer in Suru swiftly mobilised a team of police operatives and local vigilantes to the location. They tracked the suspects to Tundafari forest in the Dakingari axis, where an intense gunfight ensued.
“As a result, four of the kidnappers were neutralised, one was arrested with life-threatening injuries, while the rest managed to flee into the forest with gunshot wounds,” Abubakar stated.
He further revealed that the abducted victim was safely rescued without harm, and officers also retrieved N3 million, which had been paid as ransom.
Following the operation, the Commissioner of Police in Kebbi, Mr. Bello Sani, commended the officers involved for their courage, professionalism, and strategic execution.
“The commissioner reaffirmed the command’s unwavering commitment to tackling criminal activities in the state.
“He also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station for swift intervention,” Abubakar added.
