
The Jigawa State Police Command has confirmed a tanker explosion at Shakkato Filling Station along Kiyawa Road in Dutse metropolis on Thursday.
Police spokesperson, SP Shiisu Adam, issued a statement on Friday, assuring the public that no lives were lost in the incident.
The explosion reportedly occurred during operations at the filling station, causing panic among residents and motorists in the area. Emergency responders swiftly contained the situation, preventing further damage.
“A preliminary investigation revealed that the fire broke out when the tanker was trying to discharge petroleum products from the tanker into an underground tank,” Adam said.
He explained that the flames spread rapidly, overwhelming the filling station operators, who quickly sought help from emergency responders.
“Upon receipt of the report, the team of policemen led by the Divisional Police Officer Dutse (DPO) rushed to the scene to control movement around the area,” the statement added.
Firefighters from Dutse International Airport and the Federal Fire Service in Dutse town were deployed and successfully contained the fire.
