A former Governor of Anambra State and former presidential aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Obi, has finally joined the Labour party.
Labour Party is largely believed to aggregate the interest of the nation’s workforce in theory, philosophy and vision.
Unfortunately, the platform has never had a leader that could give practical expression to its ideas and ideals.
Peter Obi is expected to provide the needed leadership on the Labour Party platform.
He is in a good stead to galvanise the workforce through the power of vision, ideas and manifesto that verge on economic restructuring and rejuvenation that will ensure national development and human capital growth.
The workforce is a critical sphere that Obi strategically wants to onboard in his presidential bid by pitching his tent with the Labour Party, according to sundry analyses even though he adumbrated some of the reasons in his Twitter post.
Obi announced his new party on his official Twitter handle on Friday.
Obi wrote, “I thank all Nigerians, especially our youths who have joined me in the mission of taking back and reuniting Nigeria.
“This project is yours and for the future of your children. I am just a facilitator.”
He explained that he resigned from the PDP “because of issues that are at variance with my persona and principles.”
Obi further added that he had “consulted widely with various parties and personalities to ensure we do not complicate the route to our desired destination.
“For me, the process of achieving our goal is as fundamental as what one will do thereafter.”
On his reason for choosing Labour Party, Obi wrote, “I have chosen a route that I consider to be in line with our aspirations and my mantra of taking the country from consumption to production; and that is the Labour Party which is synonymous with the people, workers, development, production, securing and uniting Nigerians as one family.”
While assuring that he will “never let you (Nigerians) down,” he called on citizens to join him in taking back our country.
