The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially summoned Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to appear before its newly established Disciplinary Committee.
This move comes in response to allegations of anti-party activities against Wike, who has been a prominent figure within the party.
Ibrahim Abdullahi, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, announced the development during an appearance on Channels TV’s Sunrise Daily on Monday.
Abdullahi expressed disappointment over Wike’s recent threats to incite political unrest in PDP-controlled states, particularly targeting those who support Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Wike’s statements, which were made over the weekend, have exacerbated tensions within the party.
He had warned of creating political turmoil in states where governors support Fubara amid the ongoing struggle for control of the PDP’s structure in Rivers State.
This conflict intensified after the PDP Governors’ Forum declared support for Fubara during a meeting in Jalingo, Taraba State.
Addressing PDP stakeholders at the party’s state congress in Port Harcourt, Wike asserted,
“Let me assure you, not while we live, will anybody take away the PDP structure from us. I hear that there are some governors who said they will take away the structure and give it to somebody. I pity those governors because I will put fire in their states. When God has given you peace, you said you don’t want peace; whatever you see, you take.”
In response to these threats, Abdullahi revealed that Wike is among those facing petitions for alleged anti-party activities.
The Disciplinary Committee, chaired by former Minister of Foreign Affairs High Chief Tom Ikimi, has formally invited Wike to address these allegations.
Abdullahi highlighted that the committee is addressing complaints from across the country and praised the current party leadership for ensuring fairness in handling internal disputes.
Chief Bode George, a known ally of Wike, has resigned from the committee, citing concerns of bias in its composition.
Abdullahi also clarified that Wike’s recent comments were likely directed at Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, the chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, and expressed disappointment at the remarks.
Despite the internal conflicts, Abdullahi remains optimistic about the PDP’s ability to navigate these challenges, noting that the party has successfully managed more complex issues in the past.
He affirmed that the current impasse is another hurdle the PDP will overcome.
