PDP hits back at Kwankwaso, calls him a ‘failed politician’

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has fired back at former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, dismissing him as an “insignificant and failed politician.”

The exchange follows Kwankwaso’s remarks during the inauguration of a newly renovated New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) office in Katsina State, where he claimed that the PDP had lost its relevance in Nigeria after his departure.

Kwankwaso, who ran for president in 2023 under the NNPP, declared,

“The PDP is dead because we left the party. We saw them drifting off track, so we decided to leave.”

In response, the PDP, through its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, released a scathing statement on Sunday, criticizing Kwankwaso’s comments and questioning his relevance in the political landscape.

The party argued that Kwankwaso’s leadership of the NNPP, which currently governs only one state, reflects his limited influence on the national stage.

“Kwankwaso is insignificant in the Nigerian political landscape today, given that he is struggling to lead the NNPP, a party that holds sway in just one state,” the PDP’s statement read. “It is baffling that someone with such limited political clout would declare a party like the PDP, which has 13 governors, numerous Senators, and House of Representatives members, as ‘dead.'”

The PDP also accused Kwankwaso of being self-serving, noting that many of his political achievements were accomplished during his time in the PDP.

The statement further criticized his focus on personal ambitions, particularly his desire to become President, while Nigerians, including those in Kano, face hardships under the current government.

“At a time when Nigerians are suffering due to the policies of the ruling APC, Kwankwaso’s only concern is his dream of becoming President. This shows a level of selfishness and insensitivity that is troubling,” the PDP added.

The party concluded by stating that it would not continue engaging with Kwankwaso, stressing that any political influence he once had was due to his affiliation with the PDP.
