Nigeria marks 64th Independence Anniversary with grand celebrations led by president Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu led the nation in celebrating Nigeria’s 64th Independence anniversary on Tuesday, in a vibrant ceremony filled with national pride and military pageantry.

The event, held at the Presidential Villa’s forecourt in Abuja, was graced by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, and other high-profile dignitaries.

The festivities peaked with a grand military parade, symbolizing Nigeria’s national strength and unity.

President Tinubu arrived at 10 a.m., greeted by a ceremonial band and a formal inspection of the Quarter Guard mounted by the elite Guards Brigade. After taking the national salute from the saluting dais, the President officiated the start of the event.

A key highlight of the celebration was the Presidential Change of Guards, followed by a spectacular Armed Forces Colour patrol, demonstrating Nigeria’s military pride. Guests, including cabinet ministers, members of the diplomatic corps, and other dignitaries, were treated to an impressive silent drill by the Guards Brigade, leaving the audience in awe.

In addition to the military displays, a cultural troupe representing the six geopolitical zones showcased Nigeria’s rich diversity through vibrant performances, accompanied by a combined mass band. The variety of performances reflected the unity in diversity that defines the nation.

The ceremony concluded with President Tinubu signing the anniversary register, cutting the 64th-anniversary cake alongside key national leaders, and releasing pigeons as a symbol of peace.

The event was a powerful reflection of the hope, resilience, and collective spirit of Nigeria as the country continues to strive for unity and progress.
