Niger gov Bago proposes N1.20tn 2025 budget

The Niger State Government has unveiled its draft budget for the 2025 fiscal year, proposing an ambitious N1.20 trillion spending plan.

This proposal was presented during the Executive Council meeting held on November 26, 2024, by the Commissioner for Planning, Mustapha Ndajiwo.

The proposed budget allocates N188.42 billion (15.68%) to recurrent expenditure and N1.01 trillion (84.34%) to capital projects, reflecting a strong emphasis on infrastructure and developmental initiatives. Compared to the approved 2024 budget, this represents a notable 32.94% increase.

Commissioner Ndajiwo explained that while the 2024 budget was supplemented with an additional N191.98 billion, the 2025 proposals indicate a modest rise of 1.18% in recurrent expenditure and a significant 32.98% boost in capital expenditure.

In his remarks, Governor Umar Bago highlighted that the substantial budget size was driven by the urgent need to bridge infrastructure gaps, address key development priorities, and adapt to the prevailing inflationary pressures in Nigeria.

The Executive Council has approved the draft budget and directed Commissioner Ndajiwo to submit it to the Niger State House of Assembly for legislative consideration.
