NAWOJ Kano chapter inaugurates new executives, commissions secretariat

In a historic event for women in journalism, the National Chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Hajia A’isha Ibrahim, has officially commissioned the new NAWOJ Secretariat in Kano and inaugurated the newly elected executives of the association’s Kano State Chapter.

The Secretariat, donated by the Kano State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), was handed over in a ceremony held at the NUJ Press Center, Kano.

During her speech, Hajia A’isha Ibrahim emphasized the importance of utilizing the new facility effectively to enhance the productivity of NAWOJ.

She encouraged the newly elected leadership, led by Sayyada Bahijja Kabara, to work diligently and uphold the trust placed in them by the members.

Unity among the association’s members, she noted, would be essential in advancing both the association’s objectives and the broader development of Kano State and Nigeria.

Comrade Wasila Ladan, NAWOJ’s National Secretary, described the inauguration as a turning point for journalism and humanitarian efforts in the state.

She called on the Kano State government and stakeholders to provide the necessary support to help the new team achieve its goals.

The Chairman of NUJ Kano State Council, Comrade Sulaiman Abdullahi Dederi, expressed confidence in the leadership of Sayyada Bahijja Kabara, praising her remarkable track record in journalism. He also reaffirmed the NUJ’s commitment to working closely with NAWOJ to support their activities.

In her acceptance speech, Sayyada Bahijja Kabara promised an inclusive leadership approach, with plans to focus on regular training and capacity building for female journalists in Kano.

She thanked the association and stakeholders for their confidence in her and pledged to fulfill her responsibilities to the best of her abilities.

The event, attended by notable dignitaries, including the Kano State Commissioner of Information, Comrade Baba Dantiye, and Barrister Muhuyi Danbatta, Chairman of the Kano State Anti-Corruption Commission, was a celebration of women’s empowerment in journalism.

The night concluded with a dinner honoring NAWOJ’s National Secretary, Wasilah Ladan, the newly inaugurated executives, and other prominent figures for their contributions to journalism and community service.

The newly elected officials of the NAWOJ Kano State Council are Sayyada Bahijja Kabara (Chairperson), Halima Yazid (Vice Chairperson), Maryam Muhammad Yakasai (Secretary), A’isha Muhammad Yalleman (Assistant Secretary), Rabi Bature (Treasurer), Hauwa Umar (Financial Secretary), and Binta Kabir Usman (Internal Auditor).

This new leadership team has committed to steering the association towards greater achievements, while continuing to advocate for female journalists and advancing the cause of journalism in Kano State.
