NASS top officials, Sani -Omolori, Amshi disagree over retirement age

The dust is yet to settle on the controversy surrounding the removal of tbe National Assembly Clerk Sani Omolori.
Two top officials of the national Assembly, Messrs Mohammed Sani-Omolori and Ahmed Amshi threw caution to the wind as they disagreed over the reitirement age of staffers of the National Assembly.
Sani-Omolori who is the Clerk of the National Assembly maintained that the retirement age for staffers of the national Assembly remains 40 years of service and 65 years of age whichever comes first.
He contended that the position was in tandem with the Resolution of the 8th National Assembly empowered to review any proposed amendment to the Conditions of Service by the National Assembly service Commission.
He argued thus: “The National Assembly Service Commission does not have the powers to set aside the Revised Conditions of Service as passed by the 8th National Assembly.

“The Management had maintained a studied silence in deference to the leadership of the 9th National Assembly who is looking into the position being canvassed by the Commission. It is therefore intriguing that the National Assembly Service Commission has unilaterally gone ahead to take a ‘’decision’’. Management urges all staff to disregard the press release by the Commission and go about their lawful duties.”
Sani Omolori was responding to a media statement issued by Engr Ahmed Amshi who chairs the National Assembly Service Commission, indicating that his outfit has approved the retirement age of staff of the National Assembly as 35 years of service or 60 years of age whichever comes first.
If Amshi’s controversial directive stands, Sani -Omolori and no fewer than 150 key staffers of the national Assembly would be retired with immediate effect from service .
