Missing Ogun pregnant woman fake her kidnap – Police

In a surprising turn of events, the Ogun State Police Command disclosed on Monday that the alleged abduction of Rahemat Lateef, a pregnant woman reportedly kidnapped while en route to the state hospital at Ijaiye, Abeokuta for delivery, was a fabricated story.

State police spokesperson SP Omolola Odutola revealed the details on her X handle, explaining that Mrs. Lateef, upon discovering she had suffered yet another miscarriage, decided to fake her kidnapping to avoid facing her husband’s disappointment and anger.

According to Odutola, Rahemat fled to Kwara State and later returned to Abeokuta accompanied by her father. The recurring miscarriages had left her deeply frustrated, prompting her to concoct the kidnapping story as a desperate measure.

Odutola provided further updates on the incident, stating, “Rahemat Lateef, whom her husband reported as abducted, was never kidnapped. She planned her trip to Kwara State to escape her husband’s reaction, due to her repeated miscarriages. She orchestrated the story herself, travelling to Kwara State. She was far from being kidnapped.”

The anti-kidnapping unit tracked her movements until she resurfaced. “She is under medical care and is safe,” Odutola added.

Last Thursday, Rahemat’s husband, Ogunbunmi Lateef, reported receiving a WhatsApp message indicating his wife’s abduction by unknown gunmen. Odutola confirmed the initial report, noting, “One Ogunbunmi Lateef of Oke Lantoro reported that his pregnant wife, due for delivery, left home for the State Hospital, Ijaiye, Abeokuta. He received a WhatsApp message confirming the abduction of his wife by unknown armed men.”

The case, initially perceived as a kidnapping, turned out to be a distressing reaction to repeated personal trauma, highlighting the emotional and psychological pressures faced by individuals dealing with recurrent miscarriages.
