Arsenal’s rising talent, Ethan Nwaneri, made a significant impact as he dazzled in the Gunners’ 5-1 thrashing of Bolton Wanderers in the third round of the Carabao Cup at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday.
The 17-year-old wonderkid scored twice, helping secure Arsenal’s place in the next round.
His first goal came in the 37th minute, courtesy of an assist from Raheem Sterling, and he doubled Arsenal’s advantage just four minutes into the second half.
In addition to Nwaneri’s brace, Declan Rice, Raheem Sterling, and German international Kai Havertz also found the back of the net.
Bolton’s Aaron Collins managed to score a consolation goal seven minutes before the hour mark, but it wasn’t enough to derail Arsenal’s dominant performance.
Nwaneri was quick to open the scoring early in the match and later completed his brace, much to the delight of the home fans, who passionately chanted, “He’s one of our own.”
Expressing his joy after the game, Nwaneri said, “I’m buzzing. I’m so happy to have helped the team go through to the next round, and I’m just ready for whatever’s next.”
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta had high praise for the youngster, commending his progress. “He’s improving daily. You can tell he’s playing without pressure, with confidence, and making decisions that show the boy is ready at this level. Today, he had a really strong performance, and I’m happy to see that,” Arteta said.
