A Mauritian man has been charged with acts of terrorism following accusations that he had threatened to destroy an organization in France that was trying to prevent the Olympic Games from being held in Paris.
On Tuesday, the 29-year-old was taken into custody and was scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
“A French organisation received terrorist threats saying the sender wanted to prevent the holding of the Olympic Games starting on July 26 this year in France,” said police spokesperson Shiva Coothen.
She continued by saying that Interpol France had looked into the matter and discovered that Mauritius was the source of the threat.
After being contacted, Interpol Mauritius was able to locate the suspect using his IP address.
Electronic gadgets belonging to the suspect have been confiscated for inspection.
If more people are connected to the purported threat, the authorities are attempting to find them. (BBC)
