Katsina police thwart kidnapping attempt, rescue 14 victims

The Katsina State Police Command successfully thwarted a kidnapping attempt on Sunday evening, rescuing 14 victims in Dan’arau village, located along the Magama-Jibia Road in Jibia Local Government Area.

According to a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, the attackers, believed to be armed bandits, ambushed two commercial vehicles and opened fire, attempting to abduct the passengers.

In response, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Jibia LGA quickly mobilized a team of operatives to the scene, engaging the bandits in a fierce gun battle. This swift action prevented the kidnapping and led to the safe rescue of the 14 victims.

However, the confrontation resulted in casualties. Two of the rescued individuals sustained gunshot wounds and were rushed to a hospital. Tragically, one of them later died from their injuries despite medical efforts.

Investigations are ongoing as police continue to track down the fleeing bandits. Katsina State Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Abubakar, commended the officers for their bravery and effective response.

He reaffirmed the commitment to intensifying efforts to combat crime in the state and urged residents to assist the police by reporting any suspicious activities.
