Insecurity: New IGP, Reps NPF Mgt. Team Meet In Abuja

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba and the Police Management Team on Wednesday met with the House of Representatives Committee on Police Affairs in Abuja on the increasing cases of insecurity in the country and how to restore normalcy in the troubled areas

Addressing the Lawmakers before the meeting dissolved into an executive session, the IGP’ stated that the interactive meeting would engage the Police hierarchy during which they would come up with modalities for effective policing of the country given the numerous security challenges facing it.

According to him, “We are here to interact with the Chairman and members of the House Committee on Police Affairs. We want to use this interaction to ensure effective policing and better security movement of all Nigerians.

“We want to see that Nigerians can close their eyes and sleep. I want to assure the House of a better security management”

The IGP’ assured going by the various strategies being put in place by the new Police Management Team under his watch, the cases of insecurity ravaging the country would soon be history

He explained to the Lawmakers that as obtained at the National Assembly, all the six-geo-political zones of the country were represented in the current Police Management Team

According to the Police boss,” there is a senior officer of the Force on the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police DIG in all the six geo-political zones of Nigeria representing the region in the highest decision making of the Police hierarchy.

He however told the committee that the North-East geopolitical zones had three DIGs in the current management as there were two serving DIGs in addition to himself who was newly elevated to IGP in the current leadership of the Force.

Earlier, Chairman of the House Committee Hon. Bello Kumo had said that the meeting became necessary to as a familiarization meeting between the lawmakers and the new Police management team and to see how the duo would collaborate on how to find common solution to the security challenges in the country.

He assured the IGP and the Police management team of the Committee’s willingness to provide all the legislative support needed for the Police to function optimally so as to secure the nation from banditry
