The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has announced strategic appointments to bolster national security and operational efficiency within the Nigeria Police Force.
Commissioner of Police (CP) Abayomi Shogunle has been appointed as the new head of the Special Intervention Squad (SIS), Elections Planning, Monitoring & Evaluation Unit, and the Safe School Protection Squad.
His extensive experience in police operations and public security management is expected to strengthen these critical units.
In a related development, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Chima Ogarashi has been named the new Force Marine Officer (FMO). His role will focus on enhancing security along Nigeria’s inland waterways, a key strategic point for commerce and security operations.
According to a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, CP Shogunle is a seasoned officer with extensive experience in operations, public relations, and various specialized fields.
“He will lead the SIS in addressing various security challenges and also serve efficiently as the head of Elections Planning, Monitoring & Evaluation, and the Safe School Protection Squad,” the statement read.
Speaking on CSP Ogarashi’s new role, Adejobi stated,
“CSP Chima Ogarashi, taking on the role of FMO, will oversee one of the critical sections of the Force with his experience in maritime security and policing and enforcement of maritime laws.” The appointments come as the Nigeria Police Force prepares to commission 25 newly acquired gunboats, alongside plans to procure additional maritime safety equipment aimed at bolstering security operations on the nation’s waterways.
“These key appointments came at a crucial time as the Force is set to unveil 25 newly acquired gunboats and initiatives moves to acquire more maritime safety equipment aimed at improving security operations on our waterways across the country. This strategic asset acquisition is a proactive approach of the Nigeria Police to ensuring the safety of lives and property, as well as fostering confidence in maritime safety,” the statement added. Reaffirming the Police Force’s commitment to national security, the IGP assured Nigerians of the Force’s readiness to respond to emerging threats.
“The Inspector-General of Police reassures members of the public of the Police Force’s commitment to responding effectively to any security threats. The Force remains steadfast in its mission to create a safe and more secure environment for all citizens,” the statement concluded.
