How suspected smuggler chased by Polish border force broke his leg

A suspected people smuggler driving a minibus carrying nine Syrian refugees blew through a Polish security post near the border with Slovakia before escaping on foot.

The individual refused to halt at the Zwardo crossing early Thursday, according to a Border Guard spokesperson.
Instead, he accelerated and drove farther into Polish territory.

When the minibus came to a halt, the driver attempted to run but went down a cliff and fractured his leg.

The Moroccan national with a German residency permit was transported to the hospital.

On Wednesday, the Czech Republic, Poland, and Austria began intensifying border checks with Slovakia to deter irregular migration, effectively suspending the conditions of Europe’s Schengen free travel zone.
