
Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has expressed deep shock and sadness over the tragic tanker explosion that claimed several lives at Dikko Junction along the Abuja-Kaduna expressway.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, the governor described the incident as “worrisome, heartbreaking, and unfortunate.”
He extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and prayed for the repose of the souls of the departed while wishing the injured a swift recovery.
Governor Bago also urged residents to prioritize their safety and act responsibly in situations involving hazardous materials.
He emphasized the need for public awareness about the dangers of scooping fuel from accident scenes.
In response to the incident, the governor directed all relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to take necessary actions and called on security agents to ensure safety and order in the area.
The tanker, loaded with Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, reportedly exploded early this morning at Dikko Junction. Tragically, some residents who attempted to scoop fuel from the tanker were caught in the explosion. Many lives were lost, and several others sustained varying degrees of burns and injuries.
