FUNAAB student Christiana Idowu killed after abduction in Lagos

Christiana Idowu, a student from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has been tragically murdered following her abduction between Ikorodu and Yaba in Lagos State.

The death was confirmed by Ibrahim Adeyemi, President of the Student Union Government at FUNAAB, during a phone conversation on Thursday.

Adeyemi stated, “The Union can confirm that she was reportedly killed by her abductor. We will be addressing the matter soon.”

According to a family source who spoke to PUNCH Metro on August 26, the kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of N3 million.

Christiana had been traveling from her home in the Itaoluwo area of Ikorodu to the University of Lagos in Yaba for industrial training when she was abducted.

After being unreachable for a period, the abductors contacted her family via her phone and demanded the ransom. Following several negotiations, the ransom was reduced to N350,000, which the family paid. However, despite the payment, the abductors did not release Christiana.

A now-viral post on X (formerly Twitter) by user @letter_to_jack revealed that intelligence operatives tracked the ransom payment through a betting account, uncovering the account holder’s identity and linking him to a location in Ikorodu.

The investigation also revealed a connection between the suspect and Christiana through social media interactions.

The operatives used cell phone tracking to locate the suspect, leading them to his parents’ house in Ikorodu. Efforts to reach Christiana’s family for further comments were unsuccessful, and Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, has not responded to inquiries regarding the case.

The murder of Christiana Idowu has sparked outrage and calls for justice, drawing attention to the severe issues of kidnapping and violence in the region.
