The Federal Government has commenced the disbursement of funds to address the salary increase arrears of military personnel, including three months of outstanding payments.
This development was confirmed by the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Matawalle, in a statement issued by Mr. Henshaw Ogubike, the Director of Information and Public Relations for the Ministry of Defence.
Dr. Matawalle disclosed that serving military personnel have started receiving payment alerts for the arrears. He emphasized the government’s commitment to addressing the welfare of military personnel and ensuring they are adequately compensated for their service.
The disbursement is expected to boost morale among military personnel and reflects the Federal Government’s acknowledgment of the sacrifices made by members of the armed forces.
“President Bola Tinubu released funds for the payment of pension and other entitlements owed retired military personnel on Thursday,” he stated.
The minister commended President Tinubu for prioritizing the welfare of both active and retired military members, adding that addressing pension arrears for retirees remains a key focus.
“This initiative reflects the President’s commitment to improving the living conditions of those who have served the nation,” Matawalle noted.
He also acknowledged the contributions of the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, for his dedication to ensuring the payments were actualized.
The minister encouraged members of the Nigerian military to remain committed to their duties, assuring them of the President’s determination to enhance their morale and provide the resources needed to address insecurity in the country.
“In spite of initial setbacks, be rest assured that Mr. President will do everything within his power to uplift our military forces as they confront the challenges of insecurity,” he emphasized.
Matawalle expressed gratitude to the President for his decisive action and highlighted the crucial role both serving and retired personnel play in safeguarding the nation’s security and tackling insurgency.
He reassured military officers of the President’s steadfast resolve to combat insecurity across Nigeria, strengthened by the readiness and resilience of the armed forces.
