EU’s second highest court overturns previous EU assistance approval for airline Condor

On Wednesday, the General Court of the European Union overturned a previous ruling by the European Commission that had authorized restructuring assistance for the German charter airline Condor.

Ireland’s Ryanair airline contested the 2019 government rescue of Condor.

“The General Court of the European Union annuls the decision of the Commission to approve restructuring aid for charter airline Condor,” the court said.

“Having regard to the doubts that the Commission should have had as regards the compatibility of that aid with EU law, it should have initiated a formal investigation procedure,” it added.
