Eidil-Kabir: Police to Deploy Anti-Riot Water Tanks, gun trucks in Niger

Niger State Police Command has said that it would deploy operational assets including Anti-riot water canon, gun-trucks, patrol vehicles in addition to adequate deployment of personnel for visibility policing, show of force and stop and search operations at all entry and exit of the State for water-tight security arrangements before, during and after the Eidil-Kabir Sallah festival.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Wasiu Abiodun disclosed this in a statement he issued on Monday in Minna, the State Capital.

He said the Commissioner of Police in the state had directed for Proactiveness measures and assured of Adequate Security Deployment for Peaceful Celebration.

Abiodun said Area Commanders, Tactical Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) had been tasked to be proactive through effective intelligence gathering and raids of blackspots within their areas of responsibility, towards ensuring a seamless and peaceful Sallah celebration.

“This will be in addition to sufficient deployment of Police personnel and other tactical teams such as the Police Mobile Force (PMF), Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), Explosive Ordinance Disposal – Chemical Biological Radiological & Nuclear (EOD-CBRN), Tactical Support Team (TST) and Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Command to Eid grounds, recreation centers, parks and other strategic public places in the State.” Abiodun said.

He said aside adequate intelligence gathering, an operation order had been issued to Area Commanders, Tactical Commanders and DPOs of their specific responsibility to provide reliable security coverage at assigned Eid grounds, with thorough supervision of men deployed for the festivity in accordance with standard operational guidelines.

The Command warned miscreants, parents and guardians to ensure a firm grip of their wards, as the Police and other security agencies would not tolerate any act of thuggery and youth disorder during and after the festive period, adding that anyone found causing trouble would face the law.
