
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended 25 suspected internet fraudsters during a raid on a cybercrime training center, popularly known as a “Yahoo Academy,” in Benin City, Edo State.
According to a statement released by the Benin Zonal Directorate of the EFCC on Friday, the operation took place on January 16, 2025, following credible intelligence about the facility being used for training in internet fraud and other illicit activities.
During the raid, operatives recovered various items, including six exotic cars, laptops, and mobile phones, believed to have been used in perpetrating fraudulent activities.
The anti-graft agency disclosed that investigations are ongoing and assured the public that the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of inquiries.
The EFCC reiterated its commitment to curbing cybercrime and other forms of financial fraud, urging citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
