Drunk truck driver crushes LASTMA official in Lagos

In a distressing incident, a suspected drunk truck driver has been arrested after ramming into an official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) in the Ojodu Berger area of Lagos State.

According to reports, the truck, with the registration number KTG 33 ZZ, was heading toward Omole from Agidingbi when the driver, reportedly speeding, lost control and struck the LASTMA official on his way to his duty post.

The impact left the official with severe fractures on his right leg and hand. He was immediately rushed to the intensive care unit of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) for urgent medical attention.

After the accident, the truck driver fled the scene but was swiftly apprehended by policemen from the Ojodu Police Station, working in collaboration with LASTMA officials.

Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, General Manager of LASTMA, visited the injured officer at LASUTH and condemned the reckless behavior of the driver. He emphasized the importance of road safety and urged motorists to always drive responsibly to avoid such tragic incidents.

“LASTMA officers are not adversaries to motorists; rather, they are dedicated to ensuring that traffic flows seamlessly, thereby fostering economic growth and urban efficiency in Lagos State,” he said.

Bakare-Oki commended the swiftness of security operatives who assisted other LASTMA officials to promptly arrest the fleeing truck driver.
