Court sentences man to death by hanging for armed robbery

The Kano State High Court, under the leadership of Justice Nasir Saminu, has sentenced Abdurrahman Yakubu to death by hanging after convicting him of multiple counts of armed robbery involving the use of dangerous weapons.

Yakubu, a resident of Bele Local Government Area in Nasarawa State, was found guilty of targeting several victims, including Barrister Hajara Lawal Ahmad, from whom he stole a vehicle and an unspecified amount of cash.

During the trial, the prosecution, led by Barrister Umar Yakubu, presented overwhelming evidence that established the defendant’s guilt beyond reasonable doubt. The court subsequently dismissed Yakubu’s defence, describing it as unsubstantiated.

In his ruling, Justice Saminu highlighted that the illegal firearms recovered from Yakubu were used for criminal activities, which compounded the severity of his crimes. He affirmed that the punishment of death by hanging aligns with the provisions of the law governing such offenses.
