In a harrowing incident, a loaded petroleum tanker suddenly burst into flames at Ajia junction along the Ibadan-Ife Road, Ibadan, on Saturday, sending shockwaves of panic among commuters.
Fortunately, no lives were lost, but the explosion left a trail of destruction and chaos in its wake.
Eyewitnesses report that the tanker caught fire around 4:45 p.m. while the driver attempted to switch lanes. The inferno spread rapidly, engulfing nearby vehicles and causing significant damage.
Among the vehicles destroyed were a mini truck, a commuter bus, a Micra car, a tricycle, and two motorcycles. The incident brought traffic to a standstill, causing disruption and confusion among motorists on the busy road.
Despite the miraculous escape from casualties, the incident has raised concerns about road safety and the need for urgent measures to prevent such disasters in the future.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the explosion, and motorists are advised to exercise caution while driving on the affected road.
