Cannabis Sativa: NDLEA celebrates 10-year jail term on notorious Kano trafficker

Federal High Court 3, Kano, presided over by Justice S.A. Amobeda, has sentenced Muhammad Bako Sambo, a prominent Cannabis sativa trafficker, to 10 years in prison.

Sambo was one of seven drug dealers who were detained and found guilty in October by the Kano state command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

Sambo, a prominent Cannabis sativa trafficker, has been found guilty and given a 10-year prison sentence, according to a statement from the Command’s public relations officer that was made accessible to our correspondent on Monday. It was signed by Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari.

According to Sadiq, the State Commander, Abubakar Idris Ahmad, CN, spearheaded the successful conviction.

NDLEA’s successful prosecution sends a loud and clear message to all those engaged in the illegal trade and transportation of cannabis and other illicit substances that Kano is not a base for them, according to Sadiq, who added that the Kano NDLEA Commander has been tenacious in his efforts to rid the state of illicit drug activities.

The Statement reads, “Sambo was apprehended on November 11, 2020, as part of his operation to smuggle significant amounts of Cannabis Sativa from Ondo and other Southern States to the North.

“NDLEA officers on patrol along the Kano-Zaria road became suspicious and stopped a Honda Accord that initially refused to stop. After a pursuit, the suspect was arrested in the Hotoro area of Kano State.

“Subsequent investigations at the State Headquarters led to the discovery of 201 kilograms of a dried leaves suspected to be Cannabis Sativa in Sambo’s vehicle. The suspect’s real identity and his residence in Lokogoma, Abuja, were later confirmed.

“Laboratory tests on the substance confirmed it as Cannabis Sativa, solidifying the case against Sambo. The convict was found guilty of trafficking in Cannabis Sativa, a violation of the NDLEA Act.”

However, Commander Ahmad praised the dedication of his prosecutors and reiterated the NDLEA’s commitment to fighting drug trafficking.

“This case is a significant victory in our ongoing fight against drug trafficking. We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that those who traffic illegal substances face the full weight of the law,” he said.

He added that the NDLEA under Brigadier General Mohammed Buba Marwa’s leadership has brought about a paradigm shift in NDLEA’s prosecution efforts.

“Through enhanced intelligence gathering, strategic focus on prosecution, impressive conviction rates, and reduced drug-related crimes, the agency has become a formidable force against drug trafficking and abuse in Nigeria.

“Marwa’s commitment to the cause, coupled with his expertise and collaborative approach, has revitalized the NDLEA, making it a more effective and impactful institution. As the agency continues to evolve under his guidance, Nigeria can look forward to a brighter future in the fight against drug-related crimes.

“The NDLEA urges citizens to report any suspicious activities and assures them of their utmost discretion and protection. Together, we can create a drug-free and safer society,” he added.
