
The House of Representatives Committee on Culture and Tourism on Wednesday halted the budget consideration of the ministry of Information, Culture and tourism.
Rep. Ogbeide Ihama led committee were of the opinion that if a good job is to be done on the budget, the Minister ought to have submitted the relevant documents earlier, adding that a situation wherein the budget was being distributed minutes before its defence was not acceptable.
A member, Joseph Edionwele (Edo PDP) insisted that the committee cannot take the budget defence because the documents were just being submitted. “What are we reviewing? We can’t take the budget defence now?” He therefore moved a motion that the budget defence be stepped down “for another one week, to enable members go through the budget.”

The motion was voted on and agreed to by members of the committee. However, the Chairman, Rep. Ihama appealed to members saying time was of the essence. He stating that members should remember that the House promised the President to pass the budget in a timely manner.
” Were here today. I want to remind you that we were all in this assembly when the House assured the President that we would pass the budget before December.
“Our job is to do the right thing, and we’re supposed to have time to review this document . The motion is sustained with an amendment, the hearing is adjourned to 11am tomorrow.”
The information aspect of the Ministry’s budget had been taken on Monday by the House Committee on Information headed by Rep. Olusegun Odebunmi (APC Oyo).
What was to have been treated on Wednesday was the Culture and Tourism aspect before the Rep. House Committee on Culture and Tourism.
