
In a significant move to enhance the leadership of key national institutions, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed chief executive officers for the National Universities Commission (NUC), the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC), the Solid Minerals Development Fund/Presidential Artisanal Gold Mining Initiative (SMDF/PAGMI), and the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD).
The announcement was made in a statement released by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, on Friday. Among the appointees is Prof. Abdullahi Ribadu, who will now serve as the Executive Secretary of the NUC. Prof. Ribadu, a visiting professor at the commission, is an expert in veterinary reproduction. His impressive academic career includes serving as the Vice-Chancellor of both the Federal University of Technology, Yola, and Sule Lamido University, Jigawa State.
For the NERDC, President Tinubu appointed Prof. Salisu Shehu as its new Executive Secretary. Prof. Shehu is a distinguished scholar in educational and human psychology. He has played a pivotal role in shaping higher education in Nigeria, including the establishment of the School of Continuing Education at Bayero University, Kano. Additionally, he has held the position of Vice-Chancellor at Al-Istiqamah University, Kano.
In another strategic appointment, Jabiru Salisu Abdullahi Tsauri has been named the National Coordinator of NEPAD.
“Jabilu Tsauri holds a Master’s in International Affairs and Diplomacy from Ahmadu Bello University. He is a seasoned administrator with expertise in legislative affairs, global affairs, and democratic governance and vast experience in public service.
” Lastly, the President appointed Yazid Shehu Umar Danfulani as the Executive Secretary of the SMDF/PAGMI.
” Yazid Danfulani holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and a Master’s in Arts and Management from the University of Hertfordshire in the United Kingdom.
” He has extensive experience in Banking, Computing, and Business Administration. He once worked at the Central Bank of Nigeria and was also a Commissioner for Commerce and Industry in Zamfara State.
The President believes the appointees’ experience and track record will bring a new sense of commitment, progress, and positive outcomes to fulfil Nigerians’ expectations of their respective organisations,” the statement said.
