The National Economic Council is a statutory body responsible for advising the President on matters related to the nation’s economy.
The council is comprised of the Vice President, the 36 state governors, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Minister of Finance, and other key stakeholders in the economic sector.
At the previous NEC meeting, members ratified the nomination of six state governors to the Board of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC), representing Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones. These governors hail from Borno, Katsina, Imo, Ekiti, Kwara, and Akwa Ibom States.
A statement from the office of the Vice President, signed by his spokesman Stanley Nkwocha, highlighted the significance of NDPHC to the country’s economic development, which was a key factor in approving these nominations.
The meeting also featured presentations of important updates and recommendations from various ad hoc committees, further emphasizing the council’s ongoing commitment to addressing Nigeria’s economic challenges.
The presence of influential figures like Bill Gates and Aliko Dangote underscores the importance of this NEC meeting as it seeks to drive economic policies and decisions critical to Nigeria’s development.
