A prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the United States, Hon. Gbogi Emmanuel, has turned down his appointment as a Special Assistant to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State.
Gbogi was one of the 344 individuals appointed as Senior Special Assistants and Special Assistants by the governor but has declined the offer, citing a lack of consultation and his business commitments abroad.
In a letter addressed to Governor Aiyedatiwa, Gbogi expressed surprise at the appointment, noting that he was not informed or consulted about his willingness to accept the role.
His earlier appointment as Chairman of the Transition Committee for Akoko South South Local Council Development Area (LCDA) had been revoked, a decision that left him feeling sidelined.
Gbogi, who returned to the United States following the withdrawal of his LCDA Caretaker Chairman role, explained that this move by the administration made him question whether his contributions were still valued.
He also pointed out that he was the only individual in the state to have experienced such a removal from the initial appointment list.
In his rejection letter, Gbogi stated:
“The subsequent replacement led me to believe that my contributions were no longer valued in your administration and the party. I felt this decision was a clear indication that my presence was no longer needed.”
He also voiced concerns that his new appointment, which he saw as a political strategy to recruit ward canvassers for the next gubernatorial election, might be perceived as a demotion.
“I cannot in good conscience accept a role that may be seen as beneath my capabilities,” he wrote.
While acknowledging the offer, Gbogi made it clear that he was unwilling to accept an appointment he felt did not reflect his qualifications or past contributions to the party.
