Anthony Joshua has been given a 28-day ban from boxing after suffering a brutal knockout defeat by fellow British fighter Daniel Dubois.
The bout, which took place at Wembley Stadium in front of 96,000 fans, saw Joshua knocked out in the fifth round. Dubois, 27, retained his IBF heavyweight title following the victory, having knocked Joshua down four times during the fight.
The 28-day suspension is standard protocol, enforced by the British Boxing Board of Control, as a precautionary measure for fighters who suffer KO or TKO defeats.
According to the Association of Boxing Commissions and Combative Sports, medical suspensions are issued to protect fighters’ health, giving them adequate recovery time before they return to the ring.
